Yes I said I am getting used to PowerPoint 2007 but there is always something which prevents me using the same as my tool of choice for creating presentations. Of course in office I am forced to use PowerPoint while for all things personal I still prefer and use keynote from Apple.
Last few days I am playing with Content Management Systems like Plone and Joomla. Of course challenge was how to share PowerPoint slides. Providing link to download files within the blog, no big deal playing them within your blog well another story. May be I will write another post some day.
Back to support for video in PowerPoint 2007. My need was to convert PowerPoint slides in to video file like flash, mov etc. I just don’t understand why Microsoft is not offering PowerPoint slides to be saved as video files. Keynote does that out of the box. I know there are dozen tools available but why? May be assumption is everyone has PowerPoint or they should buy PowerPoint. I really struggle with Microsoft’s choice to ignore this feature. Ok now since I ranted enough, here is my workaround. I saved pptx files in to ppt first. Keynote will let you open ppt files. Fix some things which were not converted properly in Keynote format. Form here onwards it is as simple as export file as video file (options are flash, mov). Yes solution assumes you have Mac and Keynote and that’s the whole point of this post. Use Keynote for creating presentations its lot better.
